Christmas table runner

A 5 foot runner made from log cabin blocks on point.

Christmas placemats

Some Christmas place mats. I sewed a head of green strips together, then cut out the trees and attached sides, then the bottom with the trunks.
They're backed in green and red and stippling quilted all over, except the trees, then bound in red.

The green doesn't really show up much, but it is a nice bright vibrant green.

Tool pouches

One of my nephews is really into wood work and doing it the old way, by hand, so he requested some tool pouches for Christmas. I have no idea what the tools look like, I just had measurements. I've done three with elastic hoops to close the pouches and the other with velcro and I just know it's not going to stay shut, so I may just give him some elastic to go with it.

Circular cushions

A couple of circular cushions for my Mum for Christmas.

Christmas wall hanging

It may well become a tablecloth on the day, made from a panel.
I quilted the snow and dark blue tree areas with a large stippling and the light blue bits of Santa with a small loops.

Lighting

I found this really neat long lead clip on light for £1.99 from a cheap shop and as all my lights for some weird reason are on one side of the room,  this will make hand sewing on the sofa so much easier. All in all with the light bulb I spent £2.38... BARGAIN!
I have seen the sewing lights in magazines before and this is definately a cheaper option.

Snuggly snail

A little snuggly patchwork snail, one of my God daughters christmas pressies.

Again, the pictures are just horrible, they look really nice on my phone screen, I think I need to invest in a new phone.

Hand sewing.

I never really get the chance to just sit and sew, if I'm at my machine Zippy gets on the table and if I sit and hand sew Millie does a really good parrot impression... it's a good job I love them.

A game of pairs

I used felt and some lovely kiddies fabric. I cut a 2.5" piece of felt and a 2" piece of fabric, then another piece of felt and using pinking shears cut out a window. Then I sewed them all together.
There are 48 in total, 2 for each pocket on the advent calendar.

Advent Calendar

This is an advent calendar using fountation piecing for the trees, free motion quilting and sashing.
It will be for my smallest niece and nephew.

WIP's Wednesday

First up is an owl - probably going to be a wall hanging over my bed, just because I love it so much and it goes with the curtains behind it :o).
It needs another border on it, then quilting and binding.
It's from an All People Quilt pattern.
Pattern here.

Next is an advent calendar I'm making for my niece and nephew, who I'm going to see at the weekend (sorry about the pics, I don't count photography as one of my skills), it has a green border on it an inch wide and needs cream borders around the corners, so it encompassed the corner squares, then I'll be using a fab strippy Christmassy fabric to fill in the gaps on the sides and top and bottom, then each blank space will have a pocket - this is going to be filled with a game from Pretty Patches magazine, like pairs, but using a piece of fabric as the pair part - I'll post it when I've finished it.

I'm going to use seed beads on cotton for the tinsel in the trees - half of one done below and only another thirteen to go.

Happy stitching!

Cushion cover

I made this a while back using foundation piecing... I've finally quilted it and it looks really nice quilted. I hadit unquilted as a cushion cover before but it lacked something and I'm pleased the quilting has added that something.
It is definately a cheerful cushion.

Wedding gift quilt finished... yay

This is a quilt for my God daughter's parents who got married a couple of weeks ago, so it's an important quilt for me to make... and my goodness was it a pig to quilt. It is by far the biggest quilt I have done to date and I sew on a Brother Innovis 400 and it was tough going... there are a few little folds in the back, but I'm hoping a good washing will help with that. I am really pleased with it and hopefully they will to. Now onto the owl wall hanging.

Friday 11 October 2013

Wedding quilt... it's coming along.

The sewing machine is now fixed - the timing belt was shredded due to exessive use... I've done a fair bit of hand sewing hexies, but now I'm back to the wedding quilt. I'm glad I had a bit of a break from it as I came up with different ideas about the borders and back and I like them... now just the quilting to go... loops or stippling... hmmmm

Tuesday 17 September 2013

My machine is broken

I have to wait til the end of the week before I can find out what's wrong with it, but isn't it sods law it's at the worse time... one and a half weeks before the wedding and an unfinished wedding gift and an unfinished birthday gift and the birthday is Friday :0(
I'm sure it will all be alright... how's that for optimism :0)

Friday finish up - 26" cushion cover for birthday present

A birthday present for a 15 year old.

I used 3" squares of gorgeous blues and off blues and I think it has turned out fab - hopefully Callum will do to.

The back is a blue polka dot - purely because it was the right size. It is very weird looking at quilted polka dot, makes your eyes go squiffy.
I did a plain envelope back.

Cat Helpers

Having seen Jamie Lee's cat and bird helpers over at The Busy Bee I thought I'd show one of my cat helpers, Zippy, who even though he knows he's not allowed on the table, still gets up there.

He was not well boy earlier this year, some sort of neurological problem, possible stroke and two bleeds into his right eye, he is stable now though, but he doesn't half get away with a lot of things now - like getting on my sewing table :o) That and he's a pretty boy :o)

This is my sewing of a big 26" square cushion cover for a friends
sons' birthday.

Gift of fabric

How lovely is it to recieve a gift of gorgeous fabric in the post.... absolutely lovely, especially when it is even more gorgeous than the picture you saw them in. Thank you Janine @ Rainbow Hare Quilts, it is stunning.

Sunday 8 September 2013

Beach huts cushion

I made a small beach hut quilt top a while back and while I liked it, it never got finished as I made smaller blocks that I like better and that got made into a quilt.

I am trying to use things up from my WIPs pile and this is one of them. It has now become a 24" squate (ish) cushion. I did loopy quilting all over and a strip of beach huts on the envelope back

Friday 6 September 2013

Friday finish up - a tiny pouch

A little tiny pouch 3 1/2" by 2 1/2", just big enough for a couple of needles, some thread and a little fabric and some 1" hexagon cards, a little something to put in your pocket, so you can sew where ever you go :o)
The outer fabric is a Laura Ashleigh print from a sample book and the inside is part of a gift I received last year for my birthday of all pretty fabrics - it's one of those things that if you knew me you would know how funny that sounds - I am a tattooed biker chick (or I was until someone set fire to my bike), but fabric is changing me, I'm using prints I never would have used before, it may also be an age things as well, but quilting has openend my eyes to a whole new side of me - one where any colour and print goes.

Have a fab weekend everyone.

Monday 2 September 2013

Sewing pouches

I've been asked to have a table at a craft night to pass along craft skills and show people what is out there and available to do, I'll be doing a bit of patchwork, some quilting, some embroidery and some bunting making.
There will be other people doing other bits like card making and corn dollies.

I have tasked myself with making a whole selection of mini sewing kits, some are just a pouch, some are fold out ones, some have pockets on both sides, some have a thing for holding thread, each one will have different bits in them (though some will have the same as each other), in some I'll put hexies, the paper, the fabric, some made up and some attached to other, I'm going to make some plain mug mats that can be quilted and decorated with other bits of fabric etc, some bunting kits. Each one will have a reel of thread and a needle, some will have embroidery floss and others will have scraps of fabric.

Below are some of the pouches I've made so far - thank you Janine for reminding me I had some bird fabric :o)

I will try and take better photo's in future.

Friday up finish - Christening present - sail boat quilt

This is my Friday finish - I think my first proper one that I've aimed for.

This is a little buggy quilt made for a christening present.

It's been backed in a lovely soft fleece, bound in green and white and I've used an assortment of blues and greens, with a couple of yellow square and beige with nautical looking rope on them.

I did all over loopy quilting, I'd recently tried it on a cushion cover and liked it and was waiting for a larger project to have a go on - I'm quite taken with it.

It measures 32" square and quite frankly I really love it, I have to say though photography is not one of my strong points.

I'm giving it in a bottle bag, of which I have plenty and have been looking at ways to use them up.
