Sew Mama Sews Give Away

I'm linking up with Sew Mama Sew's give away, this is the first that I've taken part in anything like this and I think it's a wonderful idea.

I will post internationally.

If you become a follower you can be entered twice. I will pick the winner by writing all the names down and putting them in a bowl (I have no hat) and getting my sewing friend Roo to pick one out.

I'm offering up 140 (give or take) precut diamonds, what is left over from an autumn quilt I made for my brother... which I still wish I had used a different colour for the border... ho hum.
To enter tell me the thing you wish you'd done different.
I'll do the draw on May 11th and announce the winner and contact them on 13th May.

Good luck and thanks to Sew Mama Sew for this opportunity.

Apologies for the photography - I really must stop taking pictures at the same time of day in the same place and expecting different results... tsk tsk

If you're interested to see what I did with mine, it's in March under Bits and Pieces I've made.

This giveaway is now closed - thanks to all that entered, I will announce the winner on 13th May.

  1. Am I first commenter? If so, yay! LOL
The last thing I would've liked to do different...would be on a paper-pieced block with lots of pieces, that I did. Just when I had it all finished, after hours of piecing and ironing, I noticed I had used the wrong colour on one piece, so where there was supposed to be a stem of a flower, there was blue and not green fabric... grumble.
So I wish I would've taken a second look and made sure, I was taking the right fabric. That would've safed me hours from fixing it, which I did with fabric paint lol!

And I hope I win these, I love autumn coloured fabrics, they're my favourites :)

    2. I crocheted a horse a little while ago and the back legs weren't quite right. I was all, "WELL, THEY'RE SEWN ON NOW!" I wish I'd taken the time to take them off, fix them, and sew them back on.

  5. As far as sewing and crafting goes I am happy with the way things turn out almost 100% of the time. If we're talking about life in general I wish I could go back and undo some stupid financial choices we made shortly after we were married.

  6. Oh dear, must you remind me!!! I have just entered a quilt in our local Quilt Festival in South Africa and half way through I realized that I should have quilted each seam in the ditch before I started on the free motion quilting. Certain parts of the squares the fabric creased over as it was a bit loose. Oh well, I won't make that same mistake again will I!!! Thank you for a chance to win your fab fabric!

  10. I'm pretty impulsive, so when it comes to sewing, there are a lot of things I should do/have done differently! Most involve measuring correctly and checking that my seams are lining up. :/

  11. i wish i had not ended up with so many bias seams on my lizard quilt...i did get most of the wrinkles out but it took some work...

  13. I'm hand sewing a quilt for my husband and I, and I really wish I'd picked different colours! I'm about 30 blocks in right now, and trying to decide if I should just make it into a lap quilt and start the one for the bed all over again. :\

  27. No matter how careful I am with measuring and cutting fabric, then sewing pieces together... for some unknown reason I am off a little in one way or another and I can't figure it out!!! This is frustrating but it doesn't stop me from doing what I love so much: creating handmade quilts!!! Thanks for the chance!

    1. I used to have that problem a lot, then all of a sudden it fell into place and so far so good it happens less and less now, but all quilts should have a quirk, that's what makes them 'by you'. Good luck.

  28. I wish that I got different fabric at JoAnn's the day after thanksgiving. I thought I was picking out fabric that I could use as backs but so far every quilt I have made the backs that I bought did not match the quilt.

  34. I tied my first quilt instead of quilting it. I should have quilted it.

    1. My first three quilts were tied and are still going strong, I was only interested in patchwork at the time, though they have floating corners, so to have quilted over them would had looked odd. Now though, I quilt everything and just love them.
      Good luck.

    1. That's the great thing about quilting etc, there is always something new to learn. I didn't bind a quilt until about my 5th or 6th, I would say don't be afraid to make mistakes and then you'll learn soon enough.

      Good luck.

  36. The second quilt I made, I bound in black with a gold backing and--are you ready for this?--used gold thread to hand-stitch the binding down. Every single stitch shows. Ugh.

  38. I sewed the binding on a quilt by machine because it was going to my little boy and I thought it would hold up better. I wish now that I had hand sewn it.
Thanks for the chance to win.

  41. I wish I would have selected different fabrics on a couple of the quilts I made. They turned out nice, but would have been better with other fabric.

I working on a lone star quilt. There isn't much I like about it now. It's ready to be quilted but I don't care for the color combinations and I made a mess out of the large squares. But, my husband saw it on the bed (it's queen size) and he loves it! ARGHHHHH! I may have to sleep under it! Thanks.

  43. I wish I'd started sewing/quilting earlier in life. Now I have to try and make time with a toddler in the house

  44. I recent finished a wall hanging, Bee Charmer by Mickey Depre. I wanted to try using variegated thread for the quilting and did an all-over meander. It would have looked better if I had done straight lines but oh well. I do like it very much.

  45. I wish I had taken more classes - that way, less mistakes made. Thanks for sharing

  46. Every time I quilt wrinkles into my quilts I wish I had made a dash to the haberdashery to get more safety pins for basting, then I decide to leave the wrinkles and quilt on, and until the quilt is washed I wish that I had ripped out the quilting to smoothe the wrinkles. After washing, though, I'm fine with it.

  47. I wish I'd measured to make sure my 1/4" foot was actually 1/4" from the needle to the edge of the foot... I sewed my first quilt with bigger seam allowances. No wonder things didn't quite line up. Oh well I guess it is a learning curve and we don't learn if we don't make mistakes. Thanks for a chance to win! :)

  48. I just recently made a modern circle quilt and when I went to the quilt store to purchase background fabric, (I really wanted a light grey or white) the owner talked me into black. I don't think it looks modern it looks Amish because I used solids.

  49. The thing I wish I had done different? Married the silly sort of husband who cannot finish a job! On the other hand- I love him anyway... Nothing to do with sewing then...
